That is because they believed and then disbelieved, so their hearts were sealed. Hence, they do not understand
The loss of faith if it is not maintained
About this noble Surah, we said that some characteristics for the hypocrites are mentioned in this Surah, and in other Surahs of the Quran, the same characteristics are mentioned in other terminology and in addition to other characteristics; In general, it paints a specific face of a hypocrite for us. Apparently, the fifth or sixth characteristic that I have noted here is that
I explained the previous one that "They believed and then disbelieved" that week,. That is, these characteristics that you see in a hypocrite, until this verse [we have stated their characteristics; Their hypocrisy, their wrongdoing is due to the fact that they believed, after they believed, they became disbelievers again. I talked a little about this coming to faith and becoming an unbeliever again that week. Of course, here, what is understood from the appearance of this verse, and in several other verses of the Quran, I clearly observe this meaning, is the same as what we stated that week; That is, some of the hypocrites, not all of them, are like this, they believed and then became disbelievers; From the beginning, they did not wear the cover of pretense and hypocrisy, but from the beginning they became believers like the rest of the people, then the various attractions of ego, expectations, selfishness and pride, gradually pulled them towards disbelief
"فاعقبهم نفاقا فی قلوبهم."
They didn't spend, they didn't fight, they didn't move for God, they didn't sacrifice, they didn't fulfill their duties; This caused the flame of faith to be gradually extinguished in their hearts and the sapling of faith dried up in their souls. This is the way that if you don't water your faith, it will gradually disappear. Faith is not like a stone that if you put it down, it will last forever; These human traits are often such that they must be maintained so that they remain, and if you do not maintain them, they will disappear. Faith is like this, love is like this, remembrance is like this; If a person does not preserve these, they will die in the heart of a person. This caused their faith to be taken from them, Faith gave way to disbelief in their hearts; Some hypocrites are like this
This is the appearance of these verses, and later, when I thought about some other verses related to the hypocrites, I saw that this meaning is the same as what is obtained from this verse. This "them" that came here is not for separation of time; It is not to show that they first believed and then they became disbelievers; No, this is a separation between appearance and interiority, a separation between form and meaning; In the case of a believer, in the meaning, an unbeliever; Some have interpreted it like this. In my opinion, this is actually an interpretation that the appearance of the verse does not show this; Although many commentators and some of the elders we know among the commentators have mentioned this meaning, the appearance of the case is the same as what we said that week and we have repeated now
The seal of the hearts of the hypocrites because of the wavering of their faith
Well, this wavering of faith, becoming a believer [then becoming an unbeliever, then again becoming a believer, then again becoming an unbeliever, which was in one of the verses that I stated earlier that week, has a characteristic, which is the other characteristic of the hypocrites that we are describing today, and that is
"فطبع علی قلوبهم"
It is stamped on their hearts; It means that it is closed in their hearts; This is irony. Another place has the same interpretation
"ختم الله علی قلوبهم"
which of course is about the infidels, not the hypocrites; God seals their hearts and closes them; It is as if the heart is the understanding power of human existence
It is the seeing, speaking, and hearing soul of a human being, which is interpreted as the heart and meaning of this heart that is in the human chest - in Islamic teachings, they have compared it to an object and a receptive being, for example, suppose a container with an open door and clear water enters it, and once the door is closed and no water enters it anymore; A jar whose door is covered, nothing will enter it, no water will enter it; There is such an analogy in Islamic teachings regarding the heart. The human soul and that human receiving power that receives knowledge, learns the memory of God, learns ethics, learns knowledge and wisdom must be open so that it can use all the senders and givers of faith and wisdom; That is, from the words of the prophets, from the words of the Quran, from thinking and consideration. If this opening is not in the heart of man, if this opening is not in the soul of man, whatever they say is of no use; And that's why you see that the verses of the Quran reach the ears of many people, but not all those many people use these verses. Or the Prophet's words, good advice, great knowledge
There is a subtle interpretation in the Quran about such people; Of course, it is about infidels, but infidels are also human beings, from these human aspects and human characteristics, infidels are also like hypocrites; I will say that the unbelievers are like those believers who do not act, about whom this "sealing of the heart" is mentioned; Human beings no longer recognize these human qualities and characteristics, unbelievers, believers, hypocrites, and non-hypocrites; If we assume a human calamity, all of them may suffer from this calamity. About the infidels, the interpretation is that
"اولئک ینادون من مکان بعید"
Those who call from a distant place
Although The Quran is read to them from a distance, the words of the Prophet are read to them, they are called by the voice, when you hear a voice from a distance - it is possible that a person is reciting a poem, for example, First, when one listens from a distance, one only hears the song and does not understand the themes; The sound hits the human ear, the human eardrum understands that sound [but] does not understand the meaning; This characteristic is remote; This is a characteristic. Secondly, those subtleties and precisions of singing and songs cannot be understood from a distance; Only one can be heard from a distance; But what subtleties, what beauties, what vibrations he uses in his voice and what pitch he gives to this voice, cannot be understood from a distance; A person who sings from a distance, you just know that yes, he is making a voice of"hai"; One understands whether it is good or bad, but does not understand what elegance, vibration, and beautiful undertones it uses. Those artists singing is not understood from a distance, although the sound is heard both from a distance and from a close distance, this sound reaches the eardrum, which is the receiver of the sounds; That understood it is a voice, but the meaning is not understood. He compares the infidels, the idlers, those who do not understand the truths and good sermons, even though they hear them, to those who hear songs from a distance; "sealing of the heart" is this
"فطبع علی قلوبهم"
Well, this is one of the characteristics of hypocrites. First of all, this is used in several places in the Quran; With the little time I had and I couldn't calculate correctly, I referred to this discovery of ordinary verses that are at the end of some Qurans and are often not accurate - I didn't have the indexed dictionary at hand, so I couldn't look closely - besides, I couldn't find those other interpretations that mean "sealing of heart", such as
" ختم الله على قلوبهم"
and similar ones in the Quran; If it were these, I could definitely see more things; But "Fataba' on their
hearts" itself, based on the revelation of the verses that I looked at, this interpretation is found in about
"فطبع علی قلوبهم", "وطبع علی قلوبهم";
"وطبع الله علی قلوبهم"،
بل طبع الله علیها"
twelve or thirteen places in the Quran
I found ten or twelve places in the Quran where this expression is used. In some places, it is about the infidels, in some places, it is about the Jews, that although the Jews had heard that a prophet was going to come and the Torah had announced this, and they knew this prophet by signs and works, and because of this prophet, they had come and settled near Yathreb, so that when this prophet appeared, they would be the first فلما جائهم ما عرفوا کفروا به ones to believe in him, despite all of this, falamma jaahum ma arafo Kafaro Beh
; When the Prophet came, they recognized him and saw that it was him [but] they disbelieved. This is the "sealing of the heart"; They have understood, but they are not ready to accept this knowledge; [This] is about the Jews. It is also mentioned about non-Jews; About the hypocrites, there are often statements about the hypocrites that a hypocrite is an apostate; That is, first he was a believer and then he became an unbeliever; Like here, like the same case that we have now in Surah Sharifah of the hypocrites, we read; They believed, then they returned after believing. This kind of hypocrisy is often seen in the few places where "the sealing of heart" arises for them. This is the next feature
