The eighth speech
O you who have believed, the polytheists are unclean, so they should not approach the Sacred Mosque from next year. And if you fear poverty in this severance, then soon Allah will make you self-sufficient out of His bounty, if He wills. Indeed, Allah is Knowing, Wise
انما المشرکون نَجَس
نَجَسand نجِسThere is a difference between
"Najis" means "unclean". It is an adjective derived from the noun. Najas is noun and means "To be dirty"
It is the same well-known rule in the Arabic language that is used to exaggerate the noun, even though the word is an adjective, and it is used against the polytheists. This is done by using the noun of the subject; for example, to exaggerate the justice of Zaid, they do not say "Zaid is just", but rather "Zaid is justice". In the verse in question, it is also stated that the polytheists are of impure souls; that is, very impure, so let them not approach the Sacred Mosque after this year; so since they are impure, they should not approach the Sacred Mosque after this year. We have said before that the plan of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him and his family) was to expel the polytheists from the entire Arabian Peninsula and not allow any non-monotheistic thought to be in it, since it is the base of monotheism, it must be flawless and pure, so one of his ways is to prevent the polytheists from entering the Sacred Mosque anymore; however, the justice of Islam is to inform them, and by communicating these verses to them this year, the polytheists no longer have the right to set foot in Mecca
Opponents of the exodus of polytheists from Mecca
Two groups opposed the polytheists' departure from Mecca: First, the polytheists themselves, who were interested in Mecca and their idols were there and they performed Tawaf. Secondly, the Muslims were merchants and marketers living in Mecca, whose livelihood was based on trading with polytheists and receiving brokerage fees. In such a situation, if the polytheists were prohibited from entering Mecca, these markets would be closed
On the other hand, the life of the Quraysh and other Arabs of Mecca was the same as the "winter and summer journey" in which by preventing the polytheists from entering Mecca, they could in turn block the way for Muslim trade. All of this was for the Muslims who they were expedient, which would have led to opposition to this ruling. In order to pave the way for the implementation of this ruling and facilitate its acceptance, He says
و ان خفتم عیلةً فسوف یغنیکم الله من فضله ان شاء ان الله علیم حکیم
“And if you fear that the polytheists will not come and you will lose your opportunity for trade and become poor because of this, then if Allah wills, He will make you free from His grace. If you see that the implementation of a divine command seems to cause a way of your livelihood to be closed, know that if you do this duty, Allah will open a way for you. So do not ignore the divine command because of this, for Allah is All-Knowing and knows the interests of the Islamic community. If He says to cut off ties with such and such a community, He knows that this is for your benefit. He commands you to leave their company out of knowledge and wisdom, and He is All-Wise, who does things with wisdom and calculation
Man is sometimes faced with two paths: on the one hand, a life of material prosperity, happiness, and peace, and on the other, the path of God, which may also be difficult. In this dilemma, this verse should be considered
